We’ve been as busy as ever with lots of fun things to do and see here. We went to the Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula, LA a couple of weekends ago. Everything you could imagine made from strawberries. Of course there was a parade where the kids caught lots of beads. There were also some interesting people there that we had the good fortune of standing next to during the parade--Andy couldn't resist, not sure what they are called here (rednecks, hossiers, WT, ???), but this family definitely came from the bayou to the festival.
We also recently went to a Tulane baseball game. They lost badly, but the real fun came with all of the heckling the fans were giving the umpire. He was making some terrible calls and they were not afraid to let him have it.
The kids are really enjoying the zoo here. We have been many times, including this past Tuesday and Saturday. Anytime we get anywhere near it they are asking to go.
They have a LA swamp section with alligators, nutria, raccoons, bears, and other things you’d expect to find in the swamp. This section is their favorite, but not because of anything alive. They have a swamp monster that is as tall as Andy and all dressed up with sharp teeth, red eyes, and fur—kinda LA’s version of a sasquatch. The kids used to be scared of it, but Wm has figured out that it isn’t real and Ck is starting to come around to it. They really want their daddy to go see it too, but it hasn’t worked out yet—hopefully soon!
For the last several weeks, Andy has joined in practices with the NO rugby team. A neighbor of ours is on the team and has been helping him learn the rules. Apparently the team is pretty good because they are heading to the second round of playoffs in Charleston, SC next weekend.
I have been swimming with a group of gals that are training for a triathlon that is on Sunday. Their coach is the kids’ swim instructor, Chris, and it has been lots of fun learning how to turn and improving my stroke. I was hoping to do the triathlon with them, but it was too late to register, but maybe in the near future I’ll get my chance.
I know we are going to pay for it, but the weather has been outstanding! Only 2 days of rain in the last 4+ weeks and perfect temps! I am sure my comments will be different in a few short weeks when it feels like Missouri’s August in May, but I’ll take it for now!
I realize that I have not yet posted from our Easter, so I’ll do that next! Hope everyone is doing great! Have a wonderful weekend! It’s the first weekend of Jazzfest here and we have our tickets in hand, so there will be LOTS going on for us!
